Christmas and Birthday Haul!

Hi everyone! Please watch my latest video on YouTube wherein I did a haul of all the presents that I got for Christmas and for my birthday! Don’t forget to hit subscribe too hihi.

And I also just started school yesterday and I already don’t want to go back hahaha! I’m a bit nervous for this upcoming semester, as I always am, but I am still hopeful that I will have a great 2017 ahead of me, so tiwala lang haha.

Thank you so much for watching, MWAH!

Hi everyone! Today, I decided to blog about how I celebrated my 19th birthday last January 9 because as weird as it may sound, I really did not expect for me to be super happy during that day. Mygahd Moira tigilan mo ang pagiging emosyonal mo! haha! So here’s what went down.

I originally planned on seeing my best friends during my birthday and just chill and film fun videos with them. However, I already felt like it wasn’t going to push through as I wasn’t sure if our schedules would meet. And then, I suddenly read an announcement on Facebook regarding my enrollment last Sunday. I supposedly only needed to go to UP on January 10 but since my adviser couldn’t make it that day, I had to see her on January 9 instead. But I would still need to go back on January 10 for validation and for paying my tuition. When I read that announcement, I literally shouted “HA????” as it was so last minute and instead of hanging out with my friends, I needed to go to school on my birthday so that I can enroll?? Ang lungkot kasi na-hassle pa ko sa birthday ko! But I had to remind myself to stop being so dramatic about it because it’s not the end of the world, hello! So I just accepted that fact for I don’t want to get affected by petty reasons anymore.

It’s a good thing that my parents and I also went to a reunion with their college barkada at Timberland last Sunday because I finally got to go swimming again and forget about all the stress! Plus, masarap pa ang food! I got to unwind there and I realized that despite of all the things that weren’t going my way, my life is still blessed and amazing if only I looked at the brighter side of it.

When the clock struck midnight, I immediately greeted myself with a Happy Birthday and even faked a smile because I wanted to change my mindset and just be happy. My parents then came into my room to greet me too! And suddenly, a few friends also began to greet me online and I honestly did not expect that for I felt like they would be too lazy to actually wait for 12 midnight and already have a birthday message for me HAHA.

Then as planned, I went to school real early in the morning and I was surprisingly first in line! Himala! After that, I immediately went home and played The Last of Us all afternoon and I had no regrets! When it was already night time, I got ready for my mini birthday celebration.

Wow may pa-glam shot pa si ate gurl! HAHAHA.

The food was so freaking delicious that night and I had an amazing time hanging out with my cousins. Some family and friends also greeted me online and some even personally messaged me on Facebook and sobrang na-touch ako kasi swear, di ko talaga inexpect! Before I knew it, I went to bed with a happy heart and a smile that couldn’t be erased. 🙂

I really thought that I would be crying on my birthday (HAHA) because of all the things that were making me sad but instead, I was actually genuinely happy. Just when you think that your life is falling apart, it suddenly has a funny way of letting you know that it is totally not! I also realized that there really are a lot of people who care for me and who still remember me on my special day.

Remember, always look at the brighter side of life. It’s way more fun there. 😉

Try Something New: The Dutch Braid

Starting this blog has also made me start to try and experiment on new things, whether it would be a clothing trend, a makeup look, or even a writing style. But recently, I have been watching some of Aspyn Ovard’s videos on YouTube, and it seems like her hairstyle videos are a real hit. So I decided to try my best to follow her instructions and try and braid my hair away! For this look, I did a half ponytail Dutch braid, and I pulled some of its parts out carefully to make them appear bigger and I also put a little hairspray on them. It just sucks that I have black hair, and the braid was not really that noticeable. Maybe I should dye my hair in a lighter color… hmmm… but at least I tried something new!

I am loving how my white sneakers can go with everything, even with a midi skirt like this! This outfit made me feel really girly and fun. Also, I did not notice until I looked at myself in the mirror that what I was wearing was similar to an outfit Maine Mendoza wore for Coke or Eat Bulaga, I think? haha wala lang coincidence

The only thing that probably annoys me about this outfit is how a midi skirt can make me look even shorter since I am already petite 😦 Ugh, I hate how my height limits my fashion choices sometimes, especially when it comes to wearing midi skirts because they are so girly and vintage and cute!!

Top: Terranova, Skirt: Greenhills, Shoes: Mango

And I just wanted to say a quick Happy Birthday to my cousin, Myka! Myka is actually the one who takes almost all of the shots for my blog, so thank you!!! Thank you also for the dinner treat! Gosh, I did not know I could eat that much food at a buffet. *bloated* hahaha!

What about you? Have you tried something new today? 🙂

How to Throw a Debut

In the Philippines, when a girl reaches the age of 18, it is considered to be a momentous point in her life. This is when the “baby turns into a lady,” as she is now legal and free. To celebrate this occasion, there is a traditional party which she can throw and it is called a debut. It is basically a coming-of-age party wherein all her closest friends and family are gathered together to celebrate her womanhood or something like that.

I had my own debut around four months ago, and I learned that it was no easy task to throw one. I searched the internet countless times to find pegs and inspirations so that I can incorporate them to my party. However, I noticed that there weren’t a lot of guides or tips on how to throw a debut, so right now, that is what I am going to write about.

Here is a guide on how to throw your own successful debut!

  1. Decide EARLY OR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you really want to have a debut or not. Ideally, you should already make this decision at least a year before you turn 18. This is because when you book a venue for your party, the rule is always first come, first serve. And if you cram to the last minute, it will be a lot more difficult for you to find the perfect setting that you want. And not just that, for you will most probably be hiring suppliers or what not, and some may not accept the job if they know they lack the time. I know that there are also some girls out there who don’t find the need to throw a debut, because let’s be real, it does costs a fortune. And they always say that the money used for the party could have been used for something more worthwhile, like shopping or travelling. But from my point of view, a debut only happens ONCE in your lifetime. On the other hand, travelling the world is something you can do at any point in your life. Well, that’s just my opinion. At the end of the day, it is still your life, your rules, your decisions. But if ever you realize that you actually want to have a debut, please decide early! 🙂
  2. Pick a theme. The more specific, the better. If you have a more specific theme, it will be easier to put fun and appropriate details on invites, the program, the stage, and the whole event itself! Make sure that the theme you choose really speaks to you and is something that you really like. Why not throw a Wicked themed party and dress in a gown like Glinda’s? Or maybe have a Cinderella themed one, and refer to your 18 Roses as your 18 Prince Charming’s? Go for something even as crazy as Harry Potter, or The Hunger Games, or why not even Adventure Time? Your guests will surely not forget your debut because it will be super unique and different from all the other ones they have already attended.
  3. Find pegs and save them to your phone! The internet is full of pictures to take inspiration from, and this will definitely make it easier for you to envision the party that you would like to have. Share them with your parents so that they also know the look that you want to go for.
  4. Check Instagram to find people/businesses/companies that you can hire for your special day! I think I found most of the people we hired on Instagram, because their accounts on that app also stands as their portfolio, and you will be able to see how they work and what their final products look like. I swear, there are A LOT of business men and women on IG, and one click is all it takes to find what you are looking for for your debut. Here’s a checklist of the list of people you may opt to hire.
    1. Fashion Designer
    2. Designer for Invitations
    3. Event Coordinator
    4. Event Stylist
    5. Host/s
    6. Souvenirs
    7. Cake
    8. Photographer and Videographer
    9. Hair and Makeup Artist
    10. Or just find a company that can do ALL of these things! I’m sure there are some businesses out there who can cover most, if not all, of these for you.
  5. Event styling makes all the difference. At first, I thought that I can be the one to style my own debut, since I can come up with creative ideas sometimes. But what I didn’t realize is the amount of work it will actually take, as in buying numerous supplies and doing construction work, to make my dream debut come to life. We ended up hiring an event styling company instead, and they really impressed me with their design and I really loved the look of my party! However, I must warn you that to be able to hire such companies, you must be willing to pay a huge amount. But don’t worry, the money will all be worth it because they will for sure do a splendid job!
  6. Be careful in throwing a black and white party. I think this is the trend nowadays, and from my experience, the guests won’t really follow this. Most of them will just dress in black, because it can flatter any type of body. So then, your party might turn into just a black party. haha! Just be mindful of that. Oh, and don’t forget that one relative who still won’t follow the dress code. I swear every party has one, and I find it so funny hahaha!
  7. Two dresses are really all you need. The first one is the traditional ball gown for the program proper and the second one is the party dress for the after party, so that you can move more freely. If you’re tight on budget, you can even just wear a gown that can convert to a dress! You’ll be able to hit two birds with one stone.
  8. Ask some guests to perform during the party, or maybe even perform yourself. To keep the spirit alive during the event, ask some of your talented family members or friends to perform a song or dance number. If you can sing or dance yourself, why not perform too? The guests will surely love and enjoy it!
  9. Ask people who can’t come to your party to send greeting videos instead, so that it can be played during the event. This goes for relatives or friends who are living in a different country. Also, why not add in some birthday greetings from your favorite celebrities? If you know anyone who works in show business, don’t be shy to ask them that favor! In my experience, I was lucky enough to get greetings from my celeb crushes like James Reid and Andre Paras, since my ninong worked in the world of showbiz. It’s something you can look back at and smile like crazy at when you’re older! 🙂
  10. Prepare a trivia game about yourself and give away some prizes. This is a popular way to break the ice and also have some fun! I’m pretty sure your guests know you well enough to answer the questions you come up with.
  11. Prepare a playlist for songs to be played during 18 Roses, the dinner, and the after party. You can even ask help from family and friends if you are not up to date with the latest music. Just be sure that you personally like those songs too. Here are a few song suggestions for your 18 Roses. 🙂
    1. Can I Have This Dance – HSM 3
    2. I See the Light – Tangled
    3. Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
    4. You and Me – Lifehouse
    5. I’ll Be – Edwin McCain
    6. You and I – John Legend
  12. ENJOY! Even if planning a debut is stressful, once the day for the party comes, RELAX! This is literally your time to be happy and be excited. THIS IS YOUR DAY! Don’t let the slightest negativity ruin it. Just be cool, smile, and enjoy every minute of your debut! ❤

#MoiraIs18: My Barbie Themed Debut

Get ready for a lengthy post filled with pictures from my debut which happened last January 9, 2016 at Edsa Shangri-la Hotel! This will likely be a storytelling version of my 18th birthday party. So if you’re interested, then keep on reading! 🙂

My invites were designed by Nikki Santos, the sister of Patricia Santos, who designed my gown. I had a Barbie themed party so instead of the usual titles for the 18 traditions (like 18 candles, 18 treasures, 18 roses), I spiced it up and changed them to 18 Kelly’s, 18 Millicent’s, and 18 Ken’s to go with the theme of the celebration. 🙂

This was one of the souvenirs I gave away during the party. It is actually a red velvet cake inside a jar, and it was really delicious! We ordered it from the Sweet Tooth Hub on IG if I’m not mistaken.

While I was getting ready, One Sweet Day PH, our event stylist, was already setting up for the event. I told them that I wanted everything to be pink, and I also wanted that the stage backdrop would be similar to the one from Marian Rivera’s baby shower as it was one of my pegs. They did a superb job of styling the event, and I highly recommend that you check them out! They were also the ones who designed the dessert bar and the lifesize Barbie box, and those turned out really great as well! Two thumbs up!!

Of course, before the actual event, we had to do a photoshoot so I am now presenting to you pictures of my awkward self! HAHA! But can my hair and eyebrows be as on fleek as this every day please??

My best friends “helping” me get ready. hahaha

Look! It’s the royal family HAHAHAH. And yes, I am an only child.

Time for the grand entrance! I think we started the actual event around 8 pm already.

I am greeted on stage by the host, Denise Yalung. My mom found out about her on YouTube and thought that her vibes fit perfectly to the theme of my birthday. 🙂 And then it was immediately time for the 18 Ken’s, aka 18 Roses!

Save the best dance for last, my dad! naks

After that, we went straight to taking group photos by table number. Here are some of them.

While the guests were having dinner, my high school friends, Anne and Alex, performed a special song number for me! Anne sang Reflection and Be Alright, and I cannot stress enough how angelic her voice is!!! She is honestly my third fave singer next to Lea Salonga and Ariana Grande. On the other hand, Alex is the one who played the guitar and she is also bursting with talent!!!

Up next was the 18 Kelly’s, aka 18 candles. Instead of the usual candle, we used mini fondant cakes instead (because honestly I am really afraid of fire for they can be the cause of big disasters!! haha).

After that was the 18 Millicent’s, aka 18 Treasures. This part of the program felt like it was Christmas all over again! haha

Then it was time to blow the candles!

After that, I went out of the room to change into my next dress. So my cousin Myka sang three songs for the intermission, and she was later joined by Kayla, a family friend of ours. Once I came back, I performed a dance number with my best friends to the tunes of Problem and Focus by Ariana Grande.

Then it was time for the closing remarks. My parents said their speeches and gave me their gift, which was a Pandora bracelet! I honestly did not see that coming because one of those cost a lot of money, but they already knew I wanted to own one for the longest time. Thank you Mommy and Daddy! And thank you also for paying for everything HAHAHA. I also gave my thank you speech at the end of the event, and it was time for the afterparty!

I decided to include in this post a list of all the people and companies which helped make my dream debut come to life! If ever you’re also throwing a debut or a party, check them out!

#MoiraIs18: My Debutante Gown

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always wondered what my debutante gown would look like someday. Before, I wanted a silver embellished gown so that I would literally be the star of the night! It would look something similar to Glinda’s gown from Wicked or Verniece Enciso’s gown during her own 18th birthday party. But last year, I decided that I wanted everything about my debut to be in pink, because trust me, that color really defines me, to the point that I am the first person my friends think of when they see something pink. haha! However, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted my gown to look like. Luckily, Patricia Santos, the fabulous woman who designed my gown, came up with a great vision of the dress of my dreams! I am so happy that I chose her because the details she puts into her designs are so beautiful and intricate, and every dress she makes has something unique and special about it. If you didn’t know, Patricia Santos is a young fashion designer, who has made gowns for celebrities like Kim Chiu, Kathryn Bernardo, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and more!

This was her initial sketch (on the spot!) when we first met with her and I immediately fell in love with her design. ❤

I had around 4 to 5 fittings for my dresses and the picture above is from my second one.

We also asked Patricia to design a dress for my baby cousin, Julianna, so that she would be my mini-me during the celebration. Her dress turned out to be so cute and adorable!

A picture with the fabulous designer behind my dress! 🙂

Finally, the finished product!

Look at those details though! Patricia also added some laser cut butterflies to the dress to go with the theme of my debut which was Barbie.

She also designed this purse to go with my gown!

This was the second dress I wore during my debut. I wanted it to be in Barbie pink and it was the one I used for my dance number. I actually secretly wished that she would design something that was similar to Yaya Dub’s dress during the Bulaga Pa More finals, and OMG SHE READ MY MIND! The first time I saw this dress, my eyes really lit up and I couldn’t take the smile off my face because it looked so Sharpay-ed! And I would definitely wear anything that Sharpay Evans would wear. 😉

Again, that detail though!

Gown, Dress and Purse designed by Patricia Santos, Earrings from Jacatel, Silver Heels from Gibi, Black Sneaker Wedges from Skechers, Pink Wedges from Carmelletes

I felt like a princess during my debut, all thanks to the beautiful gown and dress I wore that night. ❤ More #MoiraIs18 posts to come!!!
