September Favorites 2016!

Hello everyone and Happy October! I have finally woken up now that September has ended! HAHA Get it?? Anyway, I finally got to upload a new video this week! I have mostly been MIA on social media because of all the deadlines, as in there’s always a test per day. I guess this is really what it means to be in third year college huhu. Ugh, enough with the rant, Moira.

Please watch my newest video and don’t forget to subscribe! Thank you so much!

August Favorites 2016

(1) Happy Skin x Love Marie Lippies. I am a big fan of Heart Evangelista’s makeup book (which I even raved about here), so when I saw that she released her own line of lippies in partnership with Happy Skin, a trustworthy and promising local makeup brand, I immediately knew that I wanted to get them! I was so happy to also learn that they were matte, and they even came in white containers, which definitely screamed Love Marie! These lippies have really great quality and I definitely recommend it to all the Filipina beauty junkies out there!

I even used the Happy Skin x Love Marie lippies in my latest video! #shamelessplug HAHA

(2) McDonald’s BBQ flavored Shake Shake Fries. OHMYGOD I was overjoyed when I saw on TV that McDo has brought back their Shake Shake Fries!!! I kid you not, I have probably been eating them once or twice a week ever since they came out because they’re just sooo good. Hay, unhealthy living huhu.

(3) Sabrina. I have planned to watch this movie for the longest time but I was just never in the mood to watch a full length black and white film lately. What did trigger (LOL trigger) me to finally see it is when Gabi DeMartino talked about it in one of her vlogs, saying that it’s one of her favorite movies because it taught her to “see life through rose-colored glasses.” It made me interested to watch Sabrina and ohmygod Audrey Hepburn is just gorgeous! The film also inspired me to see the bright side of life and that if Sabrina can go from being depressed to being confident, then I definitely can too! haha!

(4) Girl Meets the Real World. OHMYGOD this show gives me the freaking feels every freaking time!!! Personally, this was probably their best episode yet, lesson-wise and acting-wise (esp from Rowan!). It basically talked about a debate if people are naturally good or naturally evil. And ironically, Riley being the positive one in the show, had to prove that people are naturally evil. So she did a lot of thinking and realizing and what not, and her answer during the debate BLEW MY MIND. I did not expect an answer like that, esp coming from a Disney show lol, but anyway, this episode really made me realize that life is all about perspective. Who knows if people are actually good or evil? But at the end of the day, it’s what you choose to see and believe in this world that will dictate how you live your life.

(5) Pretty Little Liars The DArkest Knight. PLL has this thing wherein they give you “okay” episodes and then when it’s the finale, they’re gonna go ALL OUT. And that’s exactly what happened with their latest episode, which probably had the grossest and most morbid scene ever. (As in grabe talaga!!!) And now I have to wait until April 2017 for Season 7B??? Huhu asan hustisya 😦 Plus, it’s gonna be their last 10 episodes next year. Ugh, I can’t believe I’m gonna say goodbye to my fave TV show soon. 😦

(6) Encantadia. During the first episodes of Encantadia, I was a little bit iffy about this remake since you basically already know what’s gonna happen since it is a remake. But now, they’re finally exploring the sequel parts of the series and I am so engaged!! I find their Enchanta language so cool and unique and I am finally starting to understand every character and event in the series and I love how this fantaserye has parallels in real life. Also, can I just say that Kylie Padilla looks so freaking good in her warrior suit (super toned body tho!) and Mikee Quintos, who plays the role of Mila/Lira, is so adorable!

(7) Mars: Friendly vs. Flirty. I randomly watched this video on YouTube since it had an interesting title and it left me laughing real hard! Until now, I still can’t get over how Ogie Alcasid kept saying “I love you” throughout the first part of the video. LOL.

(8) Closer ft. Halsey by the Chainsmokers. I just love how catchy this song is and every time I hear it, it makes me wanna either get up and dance, or just nod along and chill. HAHAHA.

(9) Pokemon GO. I was never really a fan of Pokemon when I was younger, but this app really made me curious so I went with the bandwagon. I really enjoyed it at first since it was fun seeing random Pokemons roaming around random places in the Philippines. But now, I really don’t get to play it that much anymore since I don’t always have wifi on my phone. sadlyf haha

The Filipino Tag!

Hi everyone! How are you and how’s the weather where you’re from? Because currently here in the Philippines, it has been raining NON-STOP. My classes got suspended (YAAAS) and although I was relieved because of that, I am hoping that this bad weather will not result into having deep floods everywhere. God, I really hope not.

So anyway, I uploaded a video last night and I hope you can check it out! I did the Filipino tag and I talked more about our culture, what I love and not love about it, foods (yes, with an S), and lots more!

Thank you so much for watching!

And P.S., you are strong, smart, and you got this *wink*

A Quick Getaway at Aruga, The Grove

Last weekend, my parents decided to grant my request of going on an overnight stay at Aruga, The Grove. I learned about it through Vern and Verniece’s blog post which you can check right here. It has always been a challenge for us to find a nice hotel we can have a quick getaway at inside the city, which is of good price but still possess a resort-like feel. And then suddenly one day, I find out about Aruga! It is a hotel/condo located at Pasig City, just in front of Tiendesitas. I immediately searched about it (and its rates), and fortunately, my parents also thought that it was a great idea to have an overnight stay there. Naawa na siguro sa ‘kin kasi patapos na bakasyon ko at nabubulok na ko sa bahay. Lol.

We arrived at Aruga at around 6 pm already! Our check-in was actually scheduled at 2 pm but we had to run an errand that same day and we also got lost because of a freaking flyover! We ended up all the way in Makati (paano??) and I was so stressed deep inside because I was worried if Aruga would decide to cancel our reservation since we didn’t show up on time! Thankfully, they did not do that and my parents and I finally got to rest after a hectic day. On the bright side, they have golf carts! I don’t know why but golf carts make me happy. hihi.

They have a few restaurants by the entrance which is always convenient for those staying at their hotel.

My dad booked the two bedroom suite for the weekend and our room was so cozy! It had a living area, dining area, COMPLETE kitchen, maid’s quarter (with T&B and laundry), guest’s bathroom, single bedroom, and a master’s bedroom with its own bathroom. Sobrang kumpleto diba?

By night time, we had guests (aka my mom and dad’s barkada) over and we ordered Chinese food for dinner. We just pretty much ~chilled~ the whole evening while my parents and their friends shared stories and played a few video games too. When it was time for them to leave, our guests actually told us that they already felt at home there and it was like we were all on a getaway at Fontana. haha!

The next day, I woke up at around 10 am (huhu) and my dad and I went for a quick swim at the pool. Surprisingly, there were only a few people swimming and I actually saw some guys who were probably in their late 40’s to early 60’s having a swimming lesson! The pool was also really big and they even had a kiddie pool too (which was equally as big).

I think I have mastered the art of sleeping while floating. haha!

Then it was time to check out! The picture above is me (duh) at their reception area.

Aruga also has a grocery store which is pretty convenient. Also, instead of the usual breakfast buffet at hotels, what they offered was breakfast vouchers in one of their restaurants. We chose The Gardens Brunch Cafe and I had a really healthy and delicious pasta. Yum!

A quick selfie before we left

And that concludes our quick overnight stay at Aruga, The Grove by Rockwell! I most probably will come back (and I will be early next time PRAMIS) and maybe with not just my parents, but with friends and family perhaps? Maybe even take over the kitchen and cook/bake something for the first time. haha! I had a really good time at Aruga and I definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a getaway inside the city.

April Favorites 2016

This post has been long overdue so I am so sorry! I have been really busy this past week because of all the deadlines  in school. But at least I have two weeks left before vacation woohoo! So anyway, here are my favorites for the month of April. 🙂

(1) Everyday Kath. I have this thing for buying books by Filipino celebrities, and I don’t even know why! When I found out that Kathryn Bernardo just launched her own book, I knew I wanted to buy it. I’m not exactly a fan of hers, but I love her fashion sense and I really saw how her style was translated to the design and layout of the book. It was so pretty! It was pretty much like reading something Candy magazine would publish, which is just age-appropriate for teens like me. Well to be honest, I didn’t really spend much time actually reading Everyday Kath. I mostly looked at the pictures kasi ang ganda! And Kathryn is as gorgeous as ever.

(2) Zoella’s Kissy Missy Lip Balm. I must say that Zoe’s products are really nice! I love her Kissy Missy Lip Balm because it gives a slight hint of color, which is actually purple in the packaging, but it’s not too overpowering or pigmented, which is why it is perfect if you like going for a natural look. I also noticed that my lips feel smoother when I use this product, so that was really a plus! Congratulations, Zoe! ❤

(3) Snapbacks. I have mentioned countless times how HOT it is now in the Philippines. And when I’m at school, I usually walk from building to building under the scorching heat. But whenever I use my umbrella, it becomes so difficult because the wind is blowing it away! And I don’t want to get embarrassed kung bumaliktad yung payong ko HAHAHA. So I opted to use snapbacks instead! I love how they do the job of keeping the harmful rays of the sun from your face, and at the same time, they’re very stylish too! It’s hitting two birds with one stone!

(4) Block and White Sunblock. Actually, this isn’t just a favorite. It’s an ESSENTIAL. Girls, and guys as well, always wear sunblock when going out!!!

(5) Gudo. I am lucky to live in a place near some amazing restaurants, and one of them is Gudo! THEIR PIZZA IS SO GOOD. It really tastes different from other pizza places, even its texture and cheesiness is different. I’m not exactly sure how to describe it, but please if you ever pass by this restaurant, BUY A PIZZA. The cheese pizza to be exact. I also love their steak and pesto. Great, now I’m craving for them…

(6) Badminton. I used to play badminton with my cousins when we were younger. I even enrolled in a legit badminton training program, but I couldn’t handle that LOL that’s why I stopped. (I guess I’m not really sporty? haha) But recently, I’ve been playing it with my cousins again, just outside our house. We consider it as our way of working out or exercising, just to make us believe that we’re actually healthy HAHAHA. But yeah, I’ve been enjoying it so far, and I really hope we can play in a real court soon.

(7) Les Miserables Manila. For a theater geek, it is a MUST to watch Les Miserables. I was so excited when I learned that it was coming to Manila, and I knew for a fact that I had to watch it! To read more about my experience, click here: Off My Bucketlist: Les Miserables Manila

(8) Serendipity. This was such a feel good movie and it was so cute! It makes me want to believe that serendipity and destiny do exist, and ohmygod it just made me want to visit New York even more!!! To read more about my thoughts about this movie, click here: Happy Accidents

(9) 10 Things I Hate About You. I’ve heard about this movie a lot of times already, but it was only recently that I actually decided to watch it for myself. It wasn’t life-changing or anything, but it really is one of those movies that can be considered as classics, since a lot of people still make references to that movie on the internet. If you haven’t watched it yet, I recommend that you do! Plus, ang gwapo nga ni guy HAHAHA.

(10) Saranggola by Donnalyn Bartolome. For some reason, I really enjoy listening to Donnalyn’s songs just because they’re very upbeat and fun. I recently discovered her song Saranggola, and it’s different from her other songs in the sense that it doesn’t contain a rap (lol), but I really liked it since it is such a feel good and chill song. Maganda talaga siya, and I recommend that you listen to it if you like listening to good OPM music too!

February Favorites 2016

Is it too late now to make a February Favorites blog post? I hope not!

(1) Pedro ‘N Coi. Pedro ‘N Coi is a Filipino restaurant owned by Shamcey Supsup, aka Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner up. Shamcey is also a graduate of UP Diliman College of Architecture (this is where I’m studying right now and fun fact: we are from the same org!) so she actually designed the whole restaurant. The branch were we ate is located at Greenhills, and even from the outside, the place already looked so inviting. When we got inside, I WAS JUST AMAZED. I really liked how it was designed because it FELT (and not just looked) very Filipino. Every little detail in the restaurant contributed to the overall feel of the place, and I love places that give importance to that. Being an architecture student, I know for a fact that architecture or design is not just about aesthetics, but rather, it is about what we like to call “diwa ng lunan” or “spirit of the place.” Architecture should be an experience, and that is exactly what Pedro ‘N Coi achieved. Props to Shamcey Supsup! Plus, the food was extremely delicious and “kakaiba.” Overall, I loved my experience in this restaurant and I definitely recommend that you try this place out!

(2) Food Camp. We live in a place near commercial establishments and a lot of new restaurants, and Food Camp is one of them. I love their burger and fries so much that I always crave for it once a week! Plus, it is not as expensive as other places that sell burgers. Food Camp is definitely a must try!

(3) Grown Ups. This may sound weird for some of you, but my favorite actor is actually Adam Sandler. He is such an effortless comedian and I find his movies really funny. One of my all-time favorite movies of him is Grown Ups, which is a story about five men who were best friends in elementary and they go on one big reunion. They took their families with them and they all ended up having the best time of their lives, which proves that nothing will ever beat the old school feeling of being outdoors and bonding with family and friends. I’ve probably watched this movie more than ten times now with my cousins, and it just never gets old. I love the chemistry of the characters and each of their funny and quirky personalities. If you’re looking for a good laugh, go and watch Grown Ups!

(4) Back to the Future. I can’t believe I only gave in to this movie trilogy now! I’m not really into sci-fi movies (because I don’t like science lol) but my cousins seemed to enjoy the movies so I thought I would give it a try. OMG BEST DECISION EVER! I loved the way they made the movie because it obviously used scientific terms and normally, I wouldn’t be interested in those kinds of stuff because I wouldn’t understand what they would be saying! But since I’m taking up a Physics class this semester, I actually enjoyed hearing terms like “flux capacitor” and “121 gigawatts” because I know what they mean and it made me feel smart HAHAHA. I also liked how the scenes were still entertaining and sometimes funny. I absolutely loved the tandem of Doc and Marty McFly. My favorite out of the three movies would probably be Back to the Future II, because it is where they explored the past, present, and future, and the ending of it was the best and funniest part. If you haven’t seen this movie trilogy, I definitely think you should go ahead and watch it!

(5) Mariquina. So I was trying to find something to watch on iflix and I came across this indie film entitled Mariquina. I’ve heard about it before and they say it’s a good film, so I figured why not try and watch it. I normally don’t watch indie films because their endings always leave me hanging, and I don’t really like that feeling. But I have to say, Mariquina is a great film because even though it left me hanging, it also left me with A LOT of feels. Basically the story is about a middle-aged woman who is trying to cope with her father’s death and finding closure, but the thing is, she drifted apart from her father ever since her parents’ separation when she was a teenager. She always thought that her mother left because her father had another woman, but in reality, her mother left simply because she didn’t love her husband anymore. The actors in this film were also great and I loved how it showcased the city of Marikina, which is kind of like the shoe capital of the Philippines. And just like the two other movies above, I recommend that you watch this Filipino indie film too!

(6) On the Wings of Love. I was never a religious viewer of this kiligserye since my nights during the weekdays are spent mostly on doing school work. But when I found out that OTWOL was coming to an end, I immediately knew that I just had to watch every single moment, especially since the show got interesting because Clark and Leah’s relationship was already on the rocks. Who would forget the lines “Kung mahal ka, babalikan ka. Pero kung mahal ka niya talaga, iiwan ka ba niya?” OHMYGOD MY HEART MY HEART HUHUHUHU. Another thing I love about OTWOL is that it is realistic and it does not need a “kontrabida” or a kidnapping scene on its last week to make the show successful. On the Wings of Love was simply a depiction of real life. I also liked how it showed that everything happens for a reason, because if you think about it, if Clark and Leah did not break up, they probably wouldn’t be as successful as they are. I am really hoping that this kiligserye will have a Part 2! *fingers crossed*

(7) That’s My Amboy. I saw on a commercial that Barbie Forteza and Andre Paras were going to have a new TV show, and since their old show The Half Sisters ended, I decided to watch That’s My Amboy. It really is just a light drama and a feel good teleserye, that’s why I like it. Also, ANG GWAPO NI ANDRE PARAS OMG.

(8) Friends The One with the Blackout. I started watching Friends again with my cousins, and I found this episode from Season 1 really funny because of Chandler’s awkwardness :(( “Gum would be perfection!” makes me laugh every time hahaha!

(9) Modern Family Spread Your Wings. I’ve been watching Modern Family ever since the show started and I find it very funny and entertaining, and I love how I always learn a thing or two from the characters. This particular episode focused more on Alex Dunphy, who is my favorite character because we have the same age and basically whatever she’s going through on the show (like college), I also go through in real life. The plot was about Alex’s giving up on college because she wasn’t really enjoying it and she was finding it hard to make friends. OHMYGOD I CAN RELATE SO MUCH. You know, being an introvert and all really does make it difficult for me to talk to new people. But at the end of the episode, I learned that you have to give yourself a chance and don’t easily give up on people, especially in college where everything makes you feel so done with life. #truestory

(10) Piece by Piece by Kelly Clarkson. Watching Kelly Clarkson’s performance of Piece by Piece on American Idol made me tear up omg 😦 It’s not that I can relate with the song because luckily, I grew up with a complete family, BUT while Kelly was singing, I really felt her hurting. The line “I will never leave her like you left me, and she will never have to wonder her worth because unlike you, I’m gonna put her first” MADE ME TEAR UP. The lyrics are so simple yet beautiful and very personal. I love songs like these that don’t need the most flowery words to tell a story or convey a message. They just simply need to come from the heart.

(11) Friends Funko Pop. I actually collect Barbie dolls and now, I think I have to add Funko Pop to my collection! I saw on Instagram that they were going to release Friends Funko Pop, and I really wanted to get them. I thought it would take a long time for them to be available in the Philippines, but I was surprised to see them at a store in UPTC! I bought the Ross and Monica ones since they were the only ones left in the store! Crazy! Hopefully, I’ll be able to collect all six of them because I love Friends that much! Also, I read that they were also going to release Mean Girls Funko Pop, so it looks like I’m gonna be broke because of all these collectibles. haha!

(12) Sketching. I’m so happy that we finally had a plate where we were required to sketch, not draft! I actually had fun doing sketches for that plate and it made me feel like I still have a chance in architecture. hahaha!

Quick story: Yesterday, I had a nap from 5-8 pm because my eyes felt so tired when I got home. But then when it was time to actually sleep at night, I couldn’t sleep because I still felt so awake. :(( I ended up watching YouTube videos of Say Tioco and one episode of Friends. And guess what? I only fell asleep at 5:30 in the morning. WEW.

Last Week

*in Adele’s voice* Hello.. it’s me..

WEW LSS! Anyway, hello! It’s me, Moira! I just wanted to blog about what happened in my life the past week. Daming ganap! This is sort of like a life update through pictures; so if you’re interested, then keep on reading! 🙂

First off, OMG! Michelle Dy noticed me on Twitter!!! She is my favorite Filipina YouTuber and I actually met her during the ThatsHeart meetup. I tweeted her since she was featured in an episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho. I didn’t expect that she would notice my tweets! AAAHH! ❤

Then last Thursday, even though I had a design research due the next day, I decided to go with my cousins to eat at Box Park. Paminsan-minsan lang kasi yung mga labas naming ganito e! (dahilan pa more) I’ve been wanting to go to Box Park for the longest time now, since it is just 5 minutes away from home and I always pass by it whenever I go to school. And I finally got to go there!

great, now i’m getting hungry…

Meet my baby cousin, Julianna!

I mentioned in my Carrie at 18 post that I watched Hiyas ng Arki 2015 last October 30. Above is a picture of me and my orgmates before the show started.

sneaky selfie with the best lighting ever

BABALA: The following pictures will not be everyone’s cup of tea! So if you don’t like drag beauty contests, then feel free to click out! 🙂

The theme of Hiyas this year was Philippine folklure. Each Arki org was given a creature from Philippine mythology and they had to choose a male org member who can best represent that creature, while still looking as fabulous as ever!

Damn, that costume though! It’s so nice and creative. The character’s name was Shokira Knightley, at siya yung nanalo! And her heels omg!

This is our org’s representative, Smoky Serna! (Smoky portrayed a kapre/giant)

The show also had intermission numbers from different orgs in the university. This org did the Filipino dance, Pandango sa Ilaw. How do they balance that on their heads?? Grabe sila!

And all the four contestants with their escorts.

October 31: Carrie’s birthday! I posted this picture on Instagram and wrote my birthday message to her there. 🙂

October 31 was also Halloween! I was supposed to celebrate it with my cousins by dressing up as scary zombies, but they had to go to their province to prepare for November 1. So yun, hindi natuloy. 😦 But I still wanted to do something, so I ended up trying (emphasize on try) to follow Promise Phan’s makeup tutorial for Esmeralda. Halatang walang magawa sa buhay. haha!

such vain.

And last night, I changed my profile picture in honor of my org’s 29th anniversary! Woohoo! #NovemBurn

The hell weeks are coming! Wish me luck?
