How to Make a Friendship Last Forever

Six years ago (June 2010), we were freshies who were excited to explore the new world of high school. We were all classmates, and though we knew each other’s names and faces, we were never really that close. I even remember that my first impressions of them were “feeler,” “feeler,” and “too corny.” HAHAHA. And what’s funny is that they also didn’t like me too back then! During freshman year, we were frenemies. Yes, we were friends, but we also secretly hated each other due to petty reasons like “Inaagaw niya yung friends ko,” or “Bakit lagi na lang siya yung kasama ninyo,” or “Di ko lang talaga siya ka-vibes.” Grabe, sobrang high school ng mga problema!

Fast forward to our last months during our senior year, we became inseparable. We loved spending time with each other, whether we were doing group works together, eating lunch together, or just simply making endless kwentos at the corridors or the school parking lot. We knew that our high school journey was about to end, so we wanted to make the most out of it before we go our different ways. It’s so crazy to think how a person that you didn’t initially like suddenly becomes the best friend that you can’t live without.

Fast forward to today, we are now all juniors in different colleges who have only seen each other less than ten times last year. I hate how we don’t get to spend as much time together as before, but what I love is how when we do see each other, it’s like nothing changed. They’re still my best friends who I can have deep talks with in the middle of the night, who I can laugh with until my stomach hurts, and most importantly, who I can completely be myself with. Our friendship is a kind of friendship that is hard to find, but luckily, six years ago, I found them and they found me.

So I thought it would be nice to share with you what you can do to make your friendship stronger and maybe even last forever (or at least try!). So here goes:

  1. The first thing to note is that you cannot force friendships. You won’t find true friendship by acting like Regina George and choosing Cady Heron to be part of your clique just because she’s pretty. Most of the time, the best friendships are those that you never even see coming. Just like in our group, we all didn’t like each other at first but somehow, after spending years of being together, you just become inseparable and when you’re not together, you miss each other every single day. So if you’re trying to find friends that will be with you until the end, don’t force it. Just let it naturally evolve first.

2. It can take years before you can truly become “best friends.” Did you know that it takes 3 years before you can completely know a person? So don’t rush things just because you don’t have a so-called “best friend” or “barkada” yet. Again, just let things happen naturally.

3. It takes a lot of effort. If you have already found your group of friends, good for you! However, know that you won’t always be together 24/7. So if you want to keep the friendship, you have to put in a lot of effort. Ask them if they’re free to hang out on the weekend, chat them up online about what’s going on in their life nowadays, or call them just to let them know that you miss them terribly. Just like in any other relationship, communication is always the key.

BONUS TIP: REPLY! If a friend starts a conversation, magreply ka gurl! (GRABE DEEP!) So if you want someone in your life, let them know that you want them in your life. Don’t ever be the reason why your friendship is doomed to fail.

4. It takes a lot of patience and understanding too. Now that we’re in different colleges, it’s definitely harder to find time to hang out in person. We don’t have the same schedules and we also don’t have the same circle of college friends. So if you ask them to hang out with you and they’re not available, you have to understand them. Just because they say no doesn’t necessarily mean that they don’t want to be with you. Trust me, they really miss you but just like you, they also have to meet their own school deadlines and they need to make time for their loved ones too. Huwag magtampo agad. Pero kung nagtampo ka nga, tell them so that it won’t blow up to become a bigger issue. The less unspoken issues inside your head, the happier you’ll be!

5. Get a “Burn Book.” Remember how in Mean Girls they have this notebook that only the four of them are allowed to write in and see? Well, get one for your barkada too! But DON’T write mean things about other people. Instead, write down all the good memories you had with each other. Put pictures and polaroids of the unforgettable times you had together. Paste all the tickets of movies you have seen together. And to make it more fun, list down all the things that you want to do together aka a “Best Friend Bucketlist!” So that one day when you all have your own jobs and your own families, you will still be able to look back on all the memorable moments you and your best friends shared throughout the years.

6. Let go and let each other grow. There came a point in my life wherein I realized that we can’t be the same four girls in high school anymore. Back then, I would spend all the time in school with them, and whenever I got home, I would chat with them online as if we never really left each other’s side. And when I would go to bed, I’d sleep with a happy heart because I had a good day with them, and I know that I would spend the next day with them too. Being in the same high school made it so easy for us to be with each other.

But now, I only see them during birthdays or summer or the holidays. I don’t talk to them every single day anymore, and I don’t always know how they’re doing, which sucks, but it’s all a part of growing up. Remember this: the best thing about true friendship is that you can grow separately, without ever growing apart.

And last but not the least, always be grateful that you found your best friends.

So to Ilka, Kim, and Carrie, I am forever thankful to the Lord that I found you. I am so lucky to meet 3, out of the 7 billion people in this world, who I can call my best friends. Or should I say TF’s? 😛 I miss you, always, and I love you, four-ever! 😉

Last weekend, my best friends and I checked in at Privato Hotel at Ortigas for our annual Christmas reunion. Sigh, you know you’re getting older when you start to use the word “reunion.” Anyway, besides catching up and giving gifts, we decided to have another one of our mini photoshoots there. We really enjoy doing these types of things and it never hurts to take new pictures to post on social media. haha!

Besides, taking lots of pictures is a good way to make your memories last forever. Capture them when you can so that when the years have passed, you can still look back at all the things you have done in this short but wonderful life. You won’t regret it, I promise!

…i woke up like this? 😉 JOKE! I wish I did though lol.

Ah, I really can’t stay serious for too long. haha!

fake laughing our way through life HAHAH

Merry Christmas from me and my squad! ❤

I can’t believe it’s already Christmas Eve tomorrow! And in a week, it’s already 2017.. WHAT?? Time really does fly by so fast nowadays, so I hope we get to make the most out of it!

Happy Holidays again, everyone!

Kinda Classy, Kinda Hood

The moment I saw this dress, I immediately CRACKED UP. The statement written on it is so witty yet so amazingly accurate. It describes my personality perfectly because I am usually kinda classy when I go out and especially when it comes to what I wear. But I have to admit that I can sometimes be kinda hood when I am with my family or friends and I just want to have fun. I guess a person can really be a walking contradiction sometimes. hahaha!

I also love the fact how comfortable this dress is and how it also possesses just the right length for my height! haha!

This dress is definitely something you can dress up or dress down, depending on your mood! It can be perfect for example when travelling but you can also pair it with a leather jacket and some booties to achieve a grunge look.

This is actually my school backpack! I love how convenient its size is and how it says WICKED on it because it reminds me of Elphaba and Glinda. *smirks*

So how many times have I shown these sneakers in my blog exactly? hahaha!

Also, a special shoutout to my best friends, especially Ilka, who took these pictures for me! We finally got to see each other and bond after almost five freaking months!!!

Dress from Trendsetters’ Bazaar, Shoes from Mango, Sunnies from Uniqlo, Backpack from Penshoppe

What about you? Are you more kinda classy or kinda hood? Or are you both like me? 😛

Coachella Summer Vibes

Hello everyone! It’s time for another round of throwback photos from my squad’s mini shoots hehe. These pictures were taken EXACTLY a year ago. Our theme for this shoot was “Coachella,” hence the field of grass. (hashtag effort para lang may bagong profile picture sa facebook lol) The outfit I chose to wear was a maxi dress because it perfectly showcased my girly style. I also did some braids for my hair to achieve a music festival vibe hahaha.

I love wearing this maxi dress when I have no time to choose an outfit because it is such a no-brainer and it is very comfortable. It also makes you look effortlessly elegant because of its length. Just pair it with your favorite sandals and you’re good to go!

Meet my bestest friends in the whole wide world!

From left to right: Me, Carrie, Ilka, and Kim. I haven’t seen these girls for around three months now and I MISS THEM SO MUCH. I’m not even sure how I survived that long without hanging out with them??? But I guess we just really don’t have the time to be together as often as we want since we all have different schedules and this semester has been pretty hectic for all us. But no worries, “summer” is just seven weeks away and I can’t wait to be with these weirdos again. ❤

^ nakatulog si kim HAHAHA

*tries to look fierce despite the scorching heat*

i was obviously having too much fun lol

^ I love the background in this photo! It looks as if I’m in Africa or something haha!

Maxi Dress: I. Candy, Shoes: Cotton On

I am currently studying for my Physics exam on Monday and I am so frustrated because I don’t understand the last two chapters of our lessons! This subject literally makes me cry because I am always overwhelmed with the pressure to AT LEAST pass. 😦 Wish me luck please? I really need it huhuhu.

Oh! And I just wanted to share that I had such a crappy and stressful day because of like I said, Physics. But my mom and I got massages a while ago at Chi Spa at Edsa Shangri-la Hotel (since it was part of my debut package and it was going to expire today lol) and I’m happy I got to chill and destress. After that, we went to the mall and I stumbled upon a greeting card that really made me smile despite the bad day I was having. Written on it was “Oops happens… but so do miracles. Just wait.” 🙂

March Favorites 2016

(1) Friends Funko Pop! Collection. If you didn’t know already, I am a HUGE Friends fan! I have watched every single episode of the hit TV series and it’s just one of those shows that can be considered as classic because you can never get tired of watching it again and again. I actually posted about this collection in my February Favorites 2016 post, and I am happy to say that I finally completed the collection! Honestly, they were so hard to find but I found a store in Greenhills that had the whole set! I got super excited that I asked my dad if he could buy me the four ones that I didn’t own yet, and he gladly said yes because he knew how much of a Friends geek I am. haha! Thanks Daddy!

(2) New makeup and goodies! My tita from the US gave me some goodies as her present for my 18th birthday, which happened last January. She gave me my first ever Naked (3) palette, Zoella Beauty products, and Tanya Burr lipglosses! Ah I am a happy kid!!! I never thought that I would be able to own these items because they are expensive and are not really available in the Philippines. And when I laid my hands on Zoella Beauty, I couldn’t believe that I was actually holding it! Call it shallow or what, but I really admire Zoe Sugg, and to be able to have her products can already make me jump for joy!

(3) Unicorn phone case. I saw this phone case at Greenhills last week, and I immediately knew I wanted to get it for myself! I’m not really that into unicorns (I like mermaids better), but it was just so cute that I couldn’t help it. I am so happy with this purchase!

(4) French braids. It is starting to get scorching hot here in the Philippines, so I always just want to tie my hair up. But I got tired of the usual high ponytail, that’s why I decided to try pigtail french braids on my hair. I can actually do this to my own hair so I didn’t find it difficult to do. I really think french braids are gonna make a comeback because they are effortlessly cute!

(5) Allegiant. I am a huge fan of the Divergent book series and I really look forward when a new movie from this franchise comes out. I watched Allegiant two weeks ago and it was a fairly good movie. I loved the beginning because it was already so intense, and I really like all the plot twists they put into it. Also, for some reason, Theo James looks more handsome in Allegiant?? And if I’m not mistaken, there will be a next movie after this one, which is also gonna be the last part of the series, and I am excited to see how it turns out and if they will either keep or refrain from the unexpected and unpredictable ending in the book! Hmm…

(6) A Second Chance. FINALLY I got to watch this movie!!! Sobrang galing dito ni John Lloyd! Grabe lang! I also love the story because it teaches you that marriage is not really everything we hope for, rather, it is everything we do not expect. There can never be a “happily ever after” without communication, effort, and of course, love. It is such a freakin’ great movie and I honestly think everyone should watch this!!! But make sure you’ve watched One More Chance before this one though. haha!

(7) Pretty Little Liars Season 6 Finale. If you know me personally, you would know how much I am addicted to Pretty Little Liars! I have been a loyal and religious viewer of the series ever since it started, and I always like reading theories of who A is. PLL’s Season 6 Finale literally gave me chills and goosebumps and mini heart attacks!!! The jump scares were probably my favorite part, and I love how every mystery is slowly coming to a close (since it will be the last season next season huhu). I can’t wait for Season 7! Aaaahh!!!

(8) Awkward Season 5B. Awkward is also one of my favorite shows because it is so funny and entertaining and it makes you feel kilig and sakit all at the same time. I honestly thought that this show was drama because of its trailer, but boy was I wrong! However, it really saddens me that this is the last season for Awkward NOOOO 😦 I’m excited to see how the story will end and what may or may not happen to Jenna and Matty. P.S. I LOVE MATTY MCKIBBEN SO MUCH! ❤

(9) Property Brothers / Brother Vs. Brother. I have been watching a lot of HGTV lately and now I’m hooked on the Scott brothers’ shows! They really work well as a tandem and the designs Jonathan comes up with are just amaaazing. I also find them good-looking but every time I comment on that, my mom or my cousin will say that they look so gay. They are not!!! *secretly wishes to meet Jonathan and Drew someday*

(10) #ALDUBMaineEvent. Wow have I been watching a lot of TV. Of course, how can I not love Maine Mendoza’s birthday celebration in Eat Bulaga? Ok fine I’ll get straight to the point. NAGKISS NA SILA AAAAHHHH OHMYGOOOOOSSHH!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

(11) Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande. Ariana Grande is a freaking queen because she slays almost every song there is??? Haha, but I really do love her new song Dangerous Woman because it’s so catchy and it also reminded me of the songs Earned It and Natural Woman LOL. Major LSS!

(12) YOUTH by Troye Sivan. Troye is also one of my faves and his songs are just so good!!! YOUTH is also one big LSS to me and I swear I can’t stop singing it in my head. *my youth is yours, trippin’ on skies, sippin’ waterfalls*

(13) Say Tioco’s YouTube channel. I’ve heard of Say Tioco for a long time now, but only now did I give in to watching her videos. I love her vlogs for I just find them very interesting and entertaining. I love her kaartehan kasi nakakahawa HAHAHA and every time she says “Bongga!” or “Ka-lerks-berks-merks-werks” just cracks me up! She is also a beauty guru and I love how passionate she is about her job. Grabe, idol!

(14) My favorite fashion bloggers are Vern and Verniece Enciso and when I was in high school, I used to read their (formerly separate) blogs every single day. And then I kind of just stopped reading blogs because I just opted to watch beauty and fashion videos on YouTube instead. However, I still kept up with Vern and Verniece’s social media accounts. Recently, I decided to why not read V ❤ V once again and I am so happy I made that choice. Iba pa rin talaga kapag sa blog sila nagsusulat because it comes from their hearts. I don’t know, I just really love the way they (especially Vern) write. It’s simple but it touches your heart. I love them so much!

(15) AnBie. I mentioned in my last favorites post that I love watching That’s My Amboy on TV, and as time passes by, I can’t help but ship Andre Paras and Barbie Forteza! They look so cute together and sobrang kulit nila. Nakaka-good vibes sila panoorin and I’m looking forward to watching their full interview on Pep Talk soon. For sure, it’s gonna be so fun to watch!

How is it April already??? I actually thought it would be a fun day today since it is April Fools BUT sadly, I woke up to some really unfortunate news. The Faculty Center of my university (UP Diliman) burned down 😦 😦 😦 Everything inside it is now gone. All the papers, books, gadgets, every single one 😦 I wish I could say that this is one big joke but it isn’t. huhuhuhuhu.
